4th of July Food and Drinks

4th of July Food and Drinks

Celebrate America with some festive treats and drinks. Just like any other holiday we love to add a special touch to our celebrations with festive foods. For our neighborhood 4th of July party we made some fun little snacks and delicious non-alcoholic drinks.

Let’s start with the super easy layerd non-alcoholic drinks. The three drinks we cound that layered the best and tasted good together were Blue G2 Blueberry-Pomegranate Gatorade, Red G Series Fruit Punch Gatorade, and White Pina Colada SoBe.

First fill the cup or glass with ice. This is important because it gives the liquid a place to hit in order to keep the colors from mixing when you pour them in. One by one you will slowly pour each drink into the cup making sure it hits the ice and not the liquid below it. You have to start with the Sobe and do them in the order we have shown because of the sugar levels. The sugar levels are what keeps it heavier or lighter.

Now let’s look at some yummy treats. One of our favorites that is really easy to make are the marshmallow firecrackers. For these, all you need is a bag of marshmallows, maraschino cherries with the stems and blue chocolate. Melt the chocolate, dipped one end of the marshmallow in it and place on a tray with the blue up. Finally, dip a cherry in the chocolate and place on top.

Now, how about some festive jello cups. Everyone knows the layered jello cups and those are fun and cute, but we came up with something else. They call this Mexican jellow or Mosaic jello. I made a batch of red jello in a 9×8 pan and a batch of blue jello in a 9×8 pan. You do want to put some non-stick pray first, but not too much because it will adhere to the jello when you remove it. Once the jello is set, cut each color into small sqaures.

For the base you will need:

Unflavored Gelatin: I like to use the powdered geletain from the grocery store but you can also use 12 sheets Gerenetina from your local Mexican store. You will need the equivalent in powdered gelatine to set about 5 cups of liquid.
Whole Milk: A little more than 2 cups of whole milk, or you can also use half and half.
Condensed Milk: 1 – 14 oz can or make our sweetened condensed milk recipe.
Evaporated Milk: 1 -12 oz can or make our easy evaporated milk recipe.
Vanilla: Use vanilla extract to flavor the milk gelatin.

Prepare the podered geletin as instructed on the box. Remember, you need about 5 cups of finish liquid. In a separate bowl mix the 3 milks and vanilla. Pour the milks mixture in with the unflavored geletin and wisk well. Place squares of the blue and red jellos into cups and lightly pour the unflavored milk mixture into the bowl and set in the refrigerator for about 4 hours.

I hope these fun recipes have inspired you to get a little creative in the kitche. Please comment below and share with us photos of your festive 4th of july treats.

Happy 4th of July!
